Congressional Candidate Kia Hamadanchy Statement on the Appointment of John Bolton as National Security Advisor
IRVINE, CA—Congressional Candidate Kia Hamadanchy, running in California’s 45th Congressional District, released a statement on the appointment of John Bolton as National Security Advisor.
“The man responsible for one of the worst foreign policy decisions in US history is now that National Security Advisor for the President of the United States. John Bolton was the architect of the decision to go to war in Iraq and in helping to mislead the public as to the existence of weapons of mass destruction.
Bolton has spent his entire career advocating for war with Iran and has repeatedly made the case for a first strike on North Korea. Bolton also has close ties to the Mujahideen-e Khalq, a cult-like terrorist organization. None of this even begins to scratch the surface of just how terrifying Bolton’s appointment is, and the amount of irreparable harm Bolton could accomplish globally is incalculable.
Donald Trump appears to have fired both H.R. McMaster and Rex Tillerson because they questioned the President’s worst impulses. Both rightly made it clear time and time again that it would be foolish to withdraw from the Iran Deal. John Bolton likely got the NSA job because Donald Trump saw him on Fox News so often saying exactly what the president wanted to hear.
The appointment of John Bolton and the nomination of Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State makes it clear Donald Trump is likely to withdraw from the Iran Deal on May 12th. The President does not care about the disastrous consequences of withdrawing from this agreement. My greatest fear is that we are seeing a replay of the run up to the Iraq War– a mistaken trillion-dollar war that Donald Trump ran against which cost an untold number of lives and for which we are still paying a heavy price.
Donald Trump’s appointment of John Bolton – someone who is unrepentant in his support for the Iraq War – makes clear there is no difference between the foreign policy of Donald Trump and that of Dick Cheney. The appointment of someone as extreme and reckless as Bolton has exponentially increased the risk of war with both Iran and North Korea. John Bolton as National Security Advisor is terrifying, and a complete and utter disaster for the United States, the Middle East, and the entire world.”
Kia Hamadanchy was born and raised in Irvine, California, the son of Iranian immigrants. A graduate of Northwood High, Hamadanchy received his bachelor’s and law degrees from the University of Michigan before serving as legal counsel to US Senators Tom Harkin (IA) and Sherrod Brown (OH).
